Evangelism Team
August 22, 2005 Meeting Minutes

Present were David Ashby, Dean Conklin, Dee Duncan, Ken Fong (taking notes), Lynda Fickling, Carolyn Warden, and Jim Wolff (presiding).

Project updates:

We discussed the proposed new name tag holders. Ken Fong reported that two of them in the Narthex will look fine placed in front of the Sanctuary doors. We have determined that we need capacity for more name tags than the original design would support. Dee Duncan will circulate an updated design. It was suggested that we ask Gene Eliason if he would be interested in building the holders.

We have received some good feedback on the introduction of the new Friendship Pads.

Dean Conklin will talk to Janet Forbes about publishing her sermons in booklet form.

Dean also reported that they had made good progress on the Golf Tournament, thanks to the exposure given the previous Sunday. Lynda Fickling will ask Chris Wilterdink to put the bus in front of the church next Sunday, to remind people why we’re trying to raise funds with the Golf Tournament.

Dee volunteered to go the Disciple 2, Disciple 3, and Jesus in the Gospels classes to solicit people to go to the homes of those who had visited St. Luke’s several times. Lynda said that she had enough phone callers for now.

New Projects:

September 11 Open House

Carolyn Warden will contact HRCA about what additional signs we can put out to advertise the Open House. Carolyn and Lynda will buy balloons and signs, as permitted, to advertise the Open House. They will also advertise in “The Hub.”

We reviewed the post card that will go out to the St. Luke’s mailing list advertising the Open House, Kickoff Sunday, and Ministry Fair. We should get extras made to hand out at church.

The Evangelism Team will have a table at the Ministry Fair. Laura Kuhl and Lynda Fickling will look for the board that we used last year to solicit volunteers to help with various ET activities. Carolyn will bring a card table. We signed up for time slots to staff the table on 9/11.

We will also staff the Guest Services station and offer tours. The problem of not having maps to hand out was raised again.

We will try to determine how many visitors we attract to the Open House; we’d like to do these twice a year to attract new members.

Jim Wolff will look at bumper stickers for additional St. Luke’s advertising.

We discussed asking the congregation to invite their neighbors to attend Fiddler on the Roof, and staffing the Guest Services Center for the event. This is an easy way to get new visitors to come to St. Luke’s.

Calendar for the remainder of 2005 and 2006

Jim reminded us that we should be planning for Advent promotional activities and a spring Open House.

Ken reported that Jim Ramsey felt that the music and drama groups are already getting good participation, so Ken will focus on other groups to schedule Group Awareness activities.

Our next meeting will be at 7 PM on September 29.
