Evangelism Team
February 8, 2005 Meeting Minutes
In attendance were David Ashby, Dean
Conklin, Lynda Fickling, Ken Fong (taking minutes), Laura Kuhl (assisted in
running the meeting), and Jim Wolff (presiding).
We briefly reviewed our progress last
year; see the ET Church Conference report.
We reviewed our Action Items:
Jim Wolff reported that the
Communications Team has taken over his 2 action items: they have a brochure
template that could be used for printing Janet’s sermons, and they will look
at IRM as an organizing principle for updating the bulletin format.
David Ashby will discuss
involvement with ET at the next Youth Leadership Team meeting.
Ken reported on 1) the Lenten
Invitation Card which we have started distributing, 2) a positive reception
from the Home Improvements group, and 3) the plans for an Advocates video for
the Next Steps class.
Dean Conklin met with UMM and asked
everyone to send him “one good idea” for improving UMM participation. It was
brought up that perhaps the group should change their name to something
catchier (UMW changed their name to “the Women of St. Luke’s”).
Lynda Fickling met with the Women
of St. Luke’s. They are interested in helping with hospitality, are thinking
about holding a “mini-Ministry Fair” to promote themselves, are thinking about
name tags, and are considering doing a ministry moment. It was suggested that
we ask Carl Cleveland for help in clarifying the missions/charter of some of
the groups that are having trouble attracting more members.
Laura Kuhl has gotten no feedback
yet from Janet on being more visible with Little School. There is no progress
on name tags or signage.
Some followup items to these action
items are listed below under Action Items.
We discussed new projects for the ET
for 2005. Jim said he believed that having an emotional connection to St. Luke’s
is key to participation and giving. He will talk to Janet about this.
We also talked about reviewing some
statistics to help guide our work, including loss/gain statistics, involvement
demographics, and groups that we know are not having their needs met. Lynda will
share what information she has.
We talked about some other projects
to undertake; see the Action Items below.
Lynda told the group that she could
use help in calling people who have been here a year and aren’t yet really
involved.
We agreed that we could use some more
members on our team.
Action Items:
All: Think of someone new to
bring to ET.
Ken Fong: Will work with the
Home Improvements group to schedule and plan a first “hospitality day”
Will get a sign put on the Mission
Closet door, so people will know that it is a Mission Closet.
Will prepare an Invitation Card to
hand out at Easter Services, listing major upcoming events for the year.
Jim Wolff: Will propose an
annual process to coordinate how groups help with hospitality, including which
functions they actually help with.
Will talk to Janet about how to form
emotional connections.
Lynda Fickling: Will help Jim
Wolff on his annual process for coordination.
Will share the statistics she has.
Will work with other ET members to
get Invitation Cards to the groups that rent our building.
Laura Kuhl: Will get feedback
from Janet on Little School visibility.
Will start name tag and signage
teams.
Will contact Jerry McLeland to find
out the status of the parking signs.
David Ashby: Will meet with
the Youth Leadership Team.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, March
15, at 7 PM.
