Evangelism Team
October 12, 2004 Meeting Minutes
In attendance were David Ashby, Dee Duncan, Lynda Fickling, Ken Fong (taking
minutes), Lisa Hajek, Laura Kuhl (presiding), and Jerry McLeland.
We reviewed the action items from the last meeting:
The revised CD is now available for distribution. Ken Fong will also be
preparing updated versions in November and December.
The Guest Services Center, being built by Dave Cupp, is almost completed.
Sunday is the target for completion.
Lisa Hajek and Laura Kuhl are working on the information board, which will
tell visitors where all meetings are being held.
Dan Kuhl and Dan Raap will be evaluating signage at the end of the month.
Jerry McLeland has received two of the new design parking signs. He should
have them installed by this weekend, and then we can decide if want to get
more of this design.
We decided to sell the new tote bags at the Guest Services Center. A “Book
Store” for St. Luke’s is being pursued by Fred Venable; we would sell the tote
bags there in the future.
We discussed future projects:
Short term: Little School
We talked about how we could leverage Little School to evangelize for St.
Luke’s. We are already giving them flyers for certain events. We brainstormed
a list of ideas for possible additional actions:
• Give Invitation Cards to parents
• Create a price differential so
that members paid less
• Non-members without a church home
join (?)
• Distribute The Chronicle
• Little School students perform
(e.g., singing) at St. Luke’s services
• Invite the congregation to
graduation, open house, book fair, art show
• Little School use the St. Luke’s
Communications Team more
• Have more pastor visibility
• Pastoral staff greet parents
• Little School staff members
attend St. Luke’s services
• Jenita Rhodes/Lynne Butler attend
St. Luke’s services
• Promote award-wining Little
School program
• Connect more with Vacation Bible
School
We decided that Laura would work on setting up some type of joint Little
School / ET meeting to discuss these and other ideas for increased evangelism.
Short term: Hospitality Team
Laura will ask the leaders of the Bread Bakers, Ushers, Greeters, etc.
small groups if one of them will take the lead to pull together a meeting of
the proposed Hospitality Team, which would integrate all those small groups.
Long term projects
These will include getting small groups to be more IRM and help with
evangelizing, and getting current church members more involved.
Laura Kuhl submitted to Finance the budget that we had created at the last
meeting.
We will evangelize at Jesus Christ Superstar. We will put the new Advent
Invitation Cards in every seat, provide greeters, provide parking attendants,
staff the Guest Services Center, stock the Information Center, and provide
Powerpoint slides before the show. We also will thank the cast after the show,
perhaps with a “goody bag” and/or a letter.
Lynda Fickling brought up the question of what we should do for visitors
after we give them tote bags.
We assigned new action items:
Ken Fong: Will update the ET section of the web site to reflect the
latest minutes and membership.
At the next Ministry Council meeting, will request the release of an
additional $1,000 for CD sleeves, signage, Guest Services Center costs, and
parking signs.
Will give the old Igniting Ministries Kit to Laura Kuhl.
Will produce a short video in which the Advocates introduce the small
groups to the new members classes.
Will give Jerry McLeland the name and number of the person who mows our
lawn.
Will work with Sharon Oliver to prepare new Advent Invitation Cards in
time for Jesus Christ Superstar. These will tentatively be the same on the
front but have an abbreviated Advent Calendar on the back.
David Ashby: Will ask his mother, Janice, to lead the Name Tag Team.
Will look for parking attendants for Jesus Christ Superstar, after first
checking with Kathy Balu.
Lynda Fickling: Will get a dinner for two gift certificate to thank
Dave Cupp for the Guest Services Center.
Will give Laura the names of the small group leaders for the proposed
Hospitality Team.
Will discuss with the staff providing hosting for Jesus Christ Superstar.
Will staff the Guest Services Center the next two Sundays, to get some
experience with it.
Laura Kuhl: Will decide on the format and set up a joint Little
School / ET meeting to increase evangelism through Little School.
Will ask the proposed Hospitality Team small group leaders for a
volunteer to set up a joint meeting.
Will staff the Guest Services Center the next two Sundays, to get some
experience with it.
Lisa Hajek: Will look into street signs that provide directions to
St. Luke’s (like some other churches have).
Will look into pricing for chocolates with our logo.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 2, at 7 PM.
