Lunch & Learn: A Spiritual Feast

Bring your lunch and join us as we discuss the book "Falling Upward" by Richard Rohr. This book discusses how in the first half of life, we are naturally and rightly preoccupied with establishing our identity - climbing, achieving, and performing. But those concerns will not serve us as we grow older and begin to embark on a further journey, one that involves challenges, mistakes, loss of control, broader horizons, and necessary suffering that actually shocks us out of our prior comfort zone. Eventually, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of "falling down" - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions, including and most especially Christianity. All are welcome! Sponsored by Seasoned Voyagers 50+Ministry.

Meeting Time/Place: Thursdays, noon-1:30pm beginning Feb. 2, 2012, for 8wks (*more classes will follow after this series is completed. Keep posted via the Sunday Bulletin and at the website)

We will also focus on what Micah 6:8 means to each of us personally.

SPIRITUALITY AND WELLNESS SERIES

Explore strategies for finding the peace and contentment we seek in the moment. Our three sessions will take an honest look at what drives human beings to pursue happiness, which is usually slightly beyond our reach at any given moment. Based on the transformative principles of Gracious Space – a framework to build trust, deep listening, honest exchange, and creativity around challenging issues – the intention for each session is to create a safe, respectful learning environment that encourages meaningful dialogue.

Finding Wellness – January 17, 2012, Rev. Jerry Herships. Jerry will lead us with humor on an exploration of the different stages in our lives, including those challenging transitions. We'll consider ways to validate and celebrate what has come before, where we are right now, and where we want to go next.

Maintaining Wholeness – March 6, 2012, Dr. Andi Pusavat & Rev. Jerry Herships. Together, Andi and Jerry will facilitate us in a conversation about living intentionally and embracing all aspects of who we are with acceptance and gratitude. We'll explore what "a life well-lived" means to each of us, and how faith can help us experience joy in the present and guide us to wholeness.
