Music Ministry

The Music Ministry program at St. Luke's wishes to extend an open invitation to anyone who desires to share their musical gifts and talents in service. Each ensemble is committed to the ministry at St. Luke's through practice, fun and fellowship. A few ensembles continue year round, however a typical season for most ensembles is September through May. If you have any questions regarding the Music Ministry program, please don't hesitate to contact us by phone or by email. We look forward to your particiaption and willingness to share in this spiritual gift we call music.

 

Brass Ensemble
The Brass Ensemble is active in Sunday morning worship services throughout the year either performing or accompanying choirs. The instrumentation includes Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba. There is no age limitation, just the desire to make great brass music. The music level of the ensemble ranges from easy to medium difficulty.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir rehearses for and participates in Sunday morning worship services regularly during the year. The choir sings a wide variety of music ranging in diversity from traditional to contemporary sacred. Whether you've had a lot of singing experience or you've had a little and would like to learn more, there is a place for you in the choir.

Cherub's Choir (3yrs-K)

The Cherub's Choir is a music and movement program for children 3 years through Kindergarten. The children learn about Christian values through song in a nurturing environment and develop motor skills through movement and playing instruments. They also perform for a few Sunday worship preludes throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to attend rehearsals with their children.

Flute Ensemble

The Flute Ensemble participates in Sunday morning worship services throughout the year. If you want to dust off the old flute and get back to playing again, now is your chance. No age limit required. The music level of the ensemble ranges from easy to medium difficulty.

Fusion WORSHIP Band

The Fusion Worship Band leads the Fusion services in a modern worship style each Sunday at 6:34pm.

Grace Notes

Grace Notes is a small gospel choir ensemble that usually meets on selected Thursday evenings before regular Chancel Choir practice. They sing on 4 to 5 Sundays throughout the year. All are welcome!

Joyful Noise Youth Handbell Choir

This is an opportunity for youth, grades 7-12, to build their musical skills ringing handbells. The youth bells ring in morning worship once a month and for special occasions. Everyone  is invited!

MEN'S CHORUS

Come sing with a bunch of guys who love to make a joyful noise! The Men's Chorus sings at various times throughout the year.

Ministers of Swing

The Ministers of Swing is a full complement Big Band and Jazz Ensemble that plays benefit concerts and dances throughout the year at St. Luke's and in the community. We have a lot of fun jazzin' it up or swingin'. The music level of the ensemble ranges from medium easy to medium difficulty.

Old Time Gospel Band

This fun, down to earth band performs for occasional worship services and events in the summer and fall.

Performing Arts Academy

The fundamental aspect of this summertime creative adventure is learning and building the character and self-esteem of each participant through music, drama and dance. There are no auditions and everyone is invited. We offer classes in Singing, Dance, Music Theory, Acting and Improvisation, Music Rehearsal, Technical Aspects of a Production, and Audition Skills. All of these educational experiences are appropriately tailored for all age groups. Our desire is to not only build confidence and skills through the arts but also nurture Christian values and do it in a safe space for learning. Primary Prayz and Junior Prayz

Part of the overall Kidz Prayz program, the Primary Prayz and Junior Prayz are opportunities for children grades 1-3 (Primary Prayz) and grades 4-6 (Junior Prayz) to participate in learning to sing, play instruments and learn Christian principles through song. This program is designed to develop cognitive skills by engaging children in a variety of musical and movement activities, with an emphasis on singing. Both groups sing Preludes and Music Ministry in Sunday services 5-6 times a year.

Sonrise Band

The Sonrise Band plays gathering songs as well as contemporary music for Sunday mornings throughout the year. If you are interested in being part of Sonrise, please contact Ken Mervine.

ST. LUKE'S CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The Chamber Orchestra plays once a month during worship services and for seasonal services. Musically, the Chamber Orchestra accompanies Congregational Hymns and the Chancel Choir as well as plays arrangements during Preludes and Offertories. If you are interested in joining the Chamber Orchestra, an audition may be required.

St. Luke's Wind Ensemble

All band instruments welcome. This is a "cross-generational" ensemble at St. Luke's that provides an opportunity for families to play together and for anyone looking to be part of a band again.

St. Luke's Youth Jazz Orchestra (SLYJO)

Come swing with us! This group is for youth in grades 7-12 who play instruments. You’re invited to “jazz” with us Sunday afternoons. No previous jazz experience required. Bring your friends–the more, the merrier!

Tintinnabulators Handbell Choir

The Tintinnabulators are a 5-octave handbell choir that rehearses every Tuesday to prepare for morning worship services once a month. All are encouraged who have the desire to get ringing again or want to learn how to ring.

Tone Chimes

Children grades 4-6 are invited to participate in this fun and musical program. No experience needed. We will explore music by playing tone chimes.

WOMEN OF NOTE

Women of Note is an auditioned group of six women who perform contemporary music with a band in 3-6 parts for worship services and concerts.

The Arts Ministry is a diverse community with a range of experience working together to create ways of sharing the Gospel with drama and music.  They reach members of St. Luke’s and the greater community with a wide variety of talents and gifts. The Arts Ministry performs in worship services as well as outside of the context of worship in the form of productions, both musical and dramatic. If you’d like to become part of the Arts Ministry at St. Luke’s either on stage or behind the scenes, please contact us!

 

Puppet Ministry

The Puppet Ministry conveys Biblical stories to a diverse community and audience. If you love participating in a highly unique way, then this is the ministry for you! Come and join in the fun. All are invited.

SLIP (St. Luke's Improv Performers)

St. Luke's Improv Performers is a hilarious good time for adults who have played at improv before and for those that have not and are just interested in having some laughs and building some skills. We play weekly year-round and work new games all the time. Improvisational theater is an ability that can be put to use in everyday life. You will learn to think on your feet, listen to others and respond quickly, to trust your instincts and hone your skills. No previous experience is necessary to play. All you need is a willing spirit and a desire to have a good time! This group will welcome players at any time so join us when you can.

Wesley Players

Wesley PlayersThe Wesley Players performs at least 2 productions annually, in the spring and fall. All are welcome to audition when posted. Recent or upcoming productions include: Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Joseph and Mary 4-Ever, Don't Kick the Turkeys, Steel Magnolias, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Other 12 Disciples, Pure as the Driven Snow, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, God's Favorite, The Music Man, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown!, Requiem for a Superstar, Our Town, Little Women, Tied to the Tracks, and more.

WITY (Wesley Improv Team for Youth)

This is the youth version of SLIP, St. Luke's Improv Performers. Youth of all ages can come and learn the basic skills involved in creating hilarious situations off the cuff and completely improvised! Audience members and participants alike are welcome to join this group on a weekly basis!
