Why do I need to enter this?

Unsolicited commercial email (commonly called "UCE" or "spam") is a huge problem on the Internet. This is the email equivalent of the telemarketers who bother you during dinner. Companies have sprouted up on the Internet who's sole purpose is to sell email addresses to other companies who then use these lists to send unsolicited email trying to sell their products. The sellers of these email addresses often employ special programs that crawl through web pages collecting email addresses. By requiring the entry above we effectively are sure that there is a warm body in front of the keyboard and not one of these programs collecting email addresses.

We do this to protect our members and constituents who wish to have their email address listed on the following page.
