CAMBODIA MEETING MINUTES
November 4, 2001
INTRODUCTION AND TREASURY REPORT
Team Members present introduced themselves and spoke about their interest in
the Cambodia Mission projects. Brian Sorsby talked about the needs in Siem
Reap, and in general, about the girls' dormitory that they would like us to
help them build.
Mark Moore volunteered to be the Committee Treasurer and Kathy Balu will be
the Secretary with Lynne Sorsby as backup.
Laurie Gilbert gave the treasury report. We currently have a balance of
$645.50 in the Cambodia Missions account, but there are some funds coming in
that have to be credited. The proceeds from the Halloween Corn Maze were
approximately $500 but have not been credited yet. The account total
should
be about $3,000.
We discussed setting a high goal of perhaps raising $40,000 and maybe we
could find matching funds from somewhere???to reach that goal.
PROJECT DISCUSSION
Joseph has told us that they may need to buy a plot of land for the girls'
dormitory which would cost about $3,000. If not possible they should be
able to use the land they currently have. We will have more information
from Joseph coming soon.
We talked about other projects that would benefit the community such as a
waste treatment facility and a water treatment facility. Kathy will check
with Denver Water for more information and Dalai will find out the priority
for such other projects.
Brian suggested a power supply such as a windmill or solar energy.
FUNDRAISERS
The Committee brainstormed on possible fund raisers we could do:
Shells to Bells (when land mines are located and detonated in Cambodia, they
are melted down and made into small bells which we can sell, perhaps as
Christmas ornaments). Dalai will have Joseph send us some soon.
Bricks of Hope (we can do something similar to last year more towards the
end of 2002).
Garage Sale (Let's all clean out our closets and basements and get involved
in this. We need two volunteers to get this project organized.)
Drama Ministry (we decided to do a spaghetti dinner and concessions at Mary
and Joseph for Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Ramseys think it is a great idea, so
this is a go. Brian and Dale are cooking again and we need volunteers to
help!)
Christmas Trees (probably too late to get in on it now, but Steve Riley will
contact Christmas Tree Farms to get more details)
Christmas Craft Bazaar (We need to get started on this soon! Or maybe it's
too late and should do it next year. Who would like to volunteer to organize
this?)
Parents Night Out (We need to select a few Fridays or Saturdays and take
turns volunteering for this; it will be fun!)
Sell a Handyman! For individuals to purchase if they need help around the
house.
We will definitely plan to do another Taste of Cambodia and Silent Auction.
(Any volunteers for this wonderfully successful fundraiser?)
A Carwash on Sunday after the Services (we discussed different ways to do
this)
We are still soliciting ideas, so if you have some, "Reply to All" or
please
join us and let us know your ideas by attending the next meeting on Sunday,
November 18, 2001 at 12:15. We don't anticipate having as many meetings as
we had last year. "Reply to All" if you would like to volunteer
to organize
a particular fundraiser. We all need to get involved in some way, so
everyone can contribute! THANKS!
