CAMBODIA MEETING MINUTES
July 9, 2000

Marie Fornof distributed infectious disease information to group members
regarding vaccinations needed for the trip.
Hepatitis A (imperative) 2 to 4 weeks prior
Tetanus booster if it's been 5 years
Polio if more than 10 years prior
Hepatitis B series of 3 shots is beneficial
Unsure about Typhoid shots

Marie said it was also recommended to take the antibiotic Doxycyclene (sp?)
although it can cause photosensitivity (use sunscreen).  Acidopholus (sp?)
is helpful.  Use a good mosquito repellent (on clothing too).  HIV is
prevalent so we should bring disposable gloves for possible blood contact.

Esther said that a safe water source built by the board of Global Ministries
was available.
Nita reported that so far, 24 people have signed up to go on the trip.  It
was discovered that Dalay had no ticket from Phnam Penh to Hong Kong so is
was quickly purchased and express mailed to her.

Laurie asked if tickets could be exchanged last minute with someone else if
someone had a last minute problem.  It was thought that is possible.

Esther said that we would need to obtain visas at the airport for $20 upon
entering Cambodia.  We would need to bring 4 passport sized photos.  Nita
will try to get everyone the paperwork in advance.  No visas are required
for Thailand and Singapore from the US.

Jan gave an update on donations.  So far we have received about $8000 worth
of auction items.  Everyone was reminded to finish up their calls.  Our goal
is $15,000.  Jan said that Michelle Mallory and Judy Evans are working on
advertisement and communication.  A video presentation is being planned for
7/23, Dalay's first Sunday here.

Laurie reported that Cathy Randel is also writing an article for the HR
paper.  Laurie has also been talking to a pastor of a Cambodian congregation
about our trip who may be able to help with our food and music for the
event.  They would also be interested in coming to our silent auction.  We
welcome their participation!

We will be having a potluck welcome for Dalay on July 19 at 6:00 pm.  Sharon
will announce it in church on 7/16 and get it in the bulletin.  Dalay will
be staying with Laurie Gilbert from the 18th to the 23rd.  She will then
stay with Esther from the 23rd to the 30th.  Esther plans to take her on the
camping trip on the 31st, 1st, and 2nd.  She will be at Jan Stull's for Aug
6 to 13 and leaving on the 16th.  We discussed the itinerary when she is
here.  She will spend a lot of time at our church functions and youth group
activities.

Esther said we would need to bring American dollars for spending.  They
prefer the newly designed bills perfectly crisp, unwrinkled or torn or they
may not accept it.  She also talked about proper apparel.  No shorts or
sleeveless shirts for women unless you are alone (bring a shawl).  Bring
long skirts (covering the ankle) to wear especially in Bangkok.  Pants might
be ok.  Lightweight fabrics are recommended.  Shoes should be closed toe and
closed ankle.  Wrap-around skirts over shorts are ok.

We discussed setting up a group innoculation clinic at the church for
convenience, on a weeknight.  The next meeting is 7/23 at 11:45.  Joyce
Carnes is bringing lunch and Ken Fong is bringing drinks.  Nita will
organize the reception after church on the 23rd.  She will be calling us to
help!
