CAMBODIA MEETING MINUTES

August 18, 2002

Laurie began the meeting with a wonderful prayer and shared an inspirational devotional from Mother Teresa called, "God's Love in Action."  We were reminded not to forget the higher purpose of our mission project and to focus with our hearts and not our heads so much!  Thanks to Steve Riley for the great lunch :-)

TEAM UPDATES
Laurie share with us the team members who will not be able to go with us to Cambodia.  Team A is now down to 19 members.  This list will be final soon.  We will be sending a message on how much money is due to the travel agency.

FUNDRAISING
A big thank you to everyone who helped with the yard sale, especially Marie and David Fornoff who coordinated the fundraiser.  We made approximately $650.00 for our share of the profits.

Nita Dunn is still coordinating the bulb sales.  They are going slowly this year, so we asked individuals to help out and take forms to friends, neighbors, and work, to create sales outside of the congregation.  We have received a little criticism that missions is doing too much fundraising, so we need to be sensitive while presenting our mission opportunities!  We also discussed providing better information on how the money is used.  For example, how much each team member is paying out of their own pocket for travel and accommodations and what we used the money for in Mission Possible I.  We raised $30,000 two years ago for that.

Currently we have raised $17,080 toward our current goal of $40,000.  To date, we have sold less than 20 bricks for a total sales of $1,570.00, plus 3 more bricks this Sunday.  Dick plans to use the memorial bricks in a sermon soon.  (They make great Christmas gifts for that person who has everything!)  Marie will write an update in the Chronicle about our fundraising efforts.  We also discussed breaking down individual projects for people who might want to contribute something for a specific use, such as textbooks, or one wall of a new structure?  We will also display photos of the previous mission project there so people can see what the funds can provide.

TRIP DETAILS
We will soon be finalizing plans for the trip and need everyone who is going to attend the meetings more regularly.  Ken Decker brought some tour information, and we need to decide what tours we want to do and when.  Does Dale or anyone else have the tour guide's business card from last time?

Joyce Carnes reviewed some of the tours done last year, temples, Buddhas, floating markets, boat rides, etc.  There are dinner cruises for the day we get to Bangkok that might be a good idea, but there are other options as well.  We will begin to finalize those plans at the next meeting.

Steve Riley is organizing the Viet Nam tours.  Dave Fornoff received some advice that we should visit North Viet Nam, not South Viet Nam.  Ken will research hotels and bring some options to the next meeting.

We need to make sure to register our electronic equipment we plan to take, or bring the original receipts.  The person from customs will come to one of our meetings, probably in November, and he will bring the forms we need.

Marie reminded us about getting our malaria pills, along with a prescription antibiotic.  She will also bring the first aid kit list so we can all contribute some supplies to it.

CRAFT BAZAAR
Our next fundraiser is on Saturday, November 2.  We hope to rent 20 spaces and sell lunch and snacks.  We will also have a general table for the missions team and anyone can donate their crafts to that if they do not want to do an entire space on their own.  Marie is coordinating this event, so contact if you want to rent a space or know someone who does.  We will need to get kitchen certified in order to prepare the food for this event.

DINNER AND PLAY
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be presented at St. Lukes on November 15th and 16th.  The missions team is once again, doing a dinner before the show.  We formed a subcommittee to organize the meal: Jan Stull, Kathy Balu, Linda Moore, Stephanie Datson, Andrea Mezger, Marie Fornoff, and Laurie Gilbert.  We will be meeting next Monday, August 26th at 7:00pm at Laurie's for dessert and planning.  We decided to make this a little more special and less casual than the previous dinners, perhaps with a chicken dish.  We will of course need all of your help on those evenings to set up, serve, and clean up.  They do expect a bigger crowd this time.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be Sunday, September 15th.  Mark Moore will bring the lunch.  We need everyone there, so we hope to see all of you!
