Called to Serve: Equipping People to Make a Difference

Real spiritual growth is activated as we serve others (James 2:14-17) In serving, we are called to use our unique spiritual gifts designed specifically for us. Take a quite time of reflection and meditation, using these passages to guide you into prayer.

As we use the gifts God has given us, we accomplish his will.  Just as God’s purpose for each of us in unique, so are the gifts he gives us.

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.  If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.  To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”  1 Peter 4:10-11

A ministry of serving others is an act of love for and devotion to Christ.

“For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.  We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; the exhorter, in exhortation; the giver, in generosity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness.”  Romans 12:3-8

God has a unique purpose or calling for each of our lives.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Ephesians 2:10; 4:11-16

We more deeply understand our personal relationship with Christ as we serve in community.

“From Christ the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”  Ephesians 4:16

“And let us consider how we may support one another on toward love and good deeds.  Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”  Hebrews 10:24-25

Spiritual growth involves many things, including Bible study, prayer, spiritual disciplines, the sacraments, fellowship, community, and worship.  Yet, real spiritual growth is activated as we serve others.”
